The bank has maintained its lead as the strongest bank in Asia Pacific, as it consistently delivered robust financial and business performance. The bank strengthened its risk management and performed strongly in asset quality indicators. Its gross NPL ratio remained low at 0.27% in 2021, compared with the average of 1.5% for the 500 largest banks in the region. Meanwhile, its loan loss reserves to gross NPLs ratio was high at 229%.

Moreover, the bank maintained strong liquidity buffers, reflected by the 50% liquid assets to total deposits and borrowings ratio. Its capital adequacy ratio stood at 21.4%, the second highest among the top 20 strongest banks in the region. In addition, the cost to income ratio of the bank increased from 30% to 33.6%, due to ongoing investment in its strategic priorities and the implementation of low-carbon operation initiatives. Despite the increase, the ratio was still much lower than the average of 43% for all the 500 banks.
