More than 9,000 delegates, exhibitors and conference speakers from more than 50 countries gathered at the Singapore EXPO from 16 – 17 November 2016 for Singapore’s first, and Asia’s largest, FinTech conference and exhibition. Organised by SingEx Exhibitions, this event was part of the nation-wide Singapore FinTech Festival that same week, with the Conference and Exhibition highlighting key takeaways that resonated with the FinTech fraternity and set the stage for regional industry growth.

In the conference opening address, Mr Ravi Menon, Managing Director for the Monetary Authority of Singapore, provided thought-provoking insights into Singapore’s current FinTech journey, as well a glimpse into the country’s potential for growth in the industry. Following on from the opening, subsequent forums and expert panel discussions addressed topics such as the current globalisation climate in FinTech, the global FinTech investment landscape, the existing ecosystem in ASEAN, and the importance of women’s role in technology.

With many expert panel forums hosted by renowned international television and news broadcasters, the conference had a business news network feel as prominent
technology leaders participating in the conference lent their weight as speakers or discussion panel participants. Dr Rohan Mahadevan, CEO of PayPal Pte Ltd, Mr
George Sartorel, Regional CEO (Asia Pacific) of Allianz SE, and Mr Stephen Bird, CEO (Global Consumer Banking) of Citigroup, amongst others, were some prominent participants in what was a heavyweight industry panel.

The exhibition component saw a unique melting pot of innovative financial technology and solutions come together, with more than 70 exhibitors including Citi, Deloitte, UOB, Mastercard, MUFG and V-Key taking part. Showcased solutions ranged from digital authentication and biometrics to the latest in mobile payment solutions, big data, cyber security and payment gateway technology.

The exhibition also provided an excellent incubation platform for promising start-up enterprises to showcase their products and solutions, presenting further opportunities for wider adoption. These exhibitors included 2 Singapore-based companies, AIDA Technologies and analytics start-up FitSense, who each won awards at the FinTech Festival’s Global Hackcelerator Programme.
