Bank of the Philippine Islands has named consumer banking chief Maria Cristina “Ginbee” Go as its next president and CEO, succeeding TG Limcaoco on 26 April 2027, subject to regulatory approvals. The transition follows five years of digital, financial inclusion and sustainability initiatives under Limcaoco, with Go set to lead the bank’s next phase of growth.

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has named Maria Cristina “Ginbee” Go, its Executive Vice president and Head of Consumer Banking, as the successor to President and CEO Jose Teodoro “TG” Limcaoco, following approval of the succession plan by its board. The appointment is scheduled to take effect after the bank’s annual stockholders’ meeting in April 2027 and remains subject to necessary approvals, according to a 22 Oct disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange.

BPI Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala said leadership renewal was “central to building enduring institutions.” He credited Limcaoco with driving transformation across digital banking, financial inclusion and sustainability, while pointing to opportunities arising from the growth and increasing sophistication of the Philippine consumer market.

Since taking over as president and CEO in 2021, Limcaoco has led BPI through changes to its technology infrastructure, cybersecurity and digital capabilities, alongside efforts to expand access to financial services through agency banking and digital-first solutions.

The bank now serves more than 19 million customers nationwide and employs over 23,000 people. It also reported record levels of performance during Limcaoco’s tenure, according to the bank. In 2026, he was named Best Bank CEO in the Philippines by The Asian Banker.

Limcaoco will remain a member of BPI’s board after the transition and take on senior governance roles at other major operating companies within the Ayala Group. The group is expected to announce the appointments in due course.

Go has spent 23 years at BPI and currently oversees its consumer banking business. She previously served as president of BPI Family Savings Bank, leading its transformation and integration into BPI.

Her work has included expanding the bank’s retail presence, strengthening customer relationships and integrating physical and digital banking services. Under her leadership of consumer banking, BPI has expanded its customer base, modernised its nationwide distribution network and advanced digital innovation, including the adoption of artificial intelligence-enabled capabilities. Go has also led leadership development and talent transformation initiatives.

Before joining BPI, she held leadership positions at Citibank, Ayala Land and Procter & Gamble.

A certified public accountant, Go graduated magna cum laude from the University of the Philippines Diliman and placed first in the 1991 CPA Licensure Examination. She holds an MBA with honours from Harvard Business School and serves on the boards of Ayala Foundation, TransUnion Philippines, BPI Direct BanKo and BPI MS Insurance Corporation.
