AWS’s Financial Services Industry Immersion Day programme equips risk, compliance and technical teams across five Southeast Asian markets with knowledge of cloud governance, generative AI risk and operational resilience.

Amazon Web Services has expanded its Financial Services Industry (FSI) Immersion Day programme across five Southeast Asian markets, delivering structured cloud risk, compliance, operational resilience and generative artificial intelligence training to banking professionals in Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand.

The initiative targets risk, compliance and controls teams within regulated financial institutions, specifically participants who are increasingly expected by supervisors to demonstrate competence in assessing both cloud-related and AI-related risks. With generative AI now entering production environments across the sector, the programme addresses the governance, risk and control implications of foundation models deployed within regulated settings.

The programme comprises two distinct tracks. The Risk and Compliance Immersion Day provides a foundational understanding of AWS and its interplay with regulatory requirements, third-party assurance frameworks, cloud governance and generative AI risk. It requires no prior AWS knowledge and is designed for participants across all three lines of defence, including legal and procurement stakeholders. The Resiliency Immersion Day addresses advanced topics including fault isolation boundaries, multi-region architecture, observability and chaos engineering, aimed at subject matter experts operating at a technical depth of L200 or above.

The Risk and Compliance track covers cloud governance, country-specific regulatory requirements, the shared responsibility model, governance risk and control frameworks, business continuity, incident response, identity and access management, data security, and a dedicated module on generative AI risk. This module examines the control frameworks required for responsible deployment of foundation models, including model governance, data lineage, employing guardrails to manage hallucination risk, prompt injection vulnerabilities and the supervisory expectations emerging across Southeast Asian jurisdictions.

Beyond risk identification, the programme makes a broader case for generative AI as a transformative enabler of modern risk management. Traditional approaches to controls assurance, such as manual evidence gathering, periodic sampling, document-heavy audit processes are increasingly incompatible with cloud-native environments where change is continuous. The immersion days demonstrate how generative AI, combined with cloud-native automation, can support both innovation and risk management effectively, with the use of AWS services such as Amazon Bedrock to provide a governed environment for deploying foundation models with guardrails and auditability built into the platform.

The Resiliency track addresses the technical architecture underpinning operational resilience, covering FSI-specific regulatory requirements for recovery time and recovery point objectives, fault isolation, grey failure detection, multi-region architecture and the use of AWS Fault Injection Simulator for chaos engineering and disaster recovery testing.

A central objective of the programme is to address the growing gap between the pace of cloud migration and AI adoption, and the pace at which risk functions develop corresponding oversight capabilities. The programme responds to a practical need among financial institutions to demonstrate to regulators and auditors that risk teams are actively being trained in cloud risk, AI governance and controls, which is a consideration that has become more prominent as supervisory scrutiny intensifies across the region.

AWS has positioned the initiative as part of a broader effort to build cloud and AI risk management capability within the region's financial sector. The programme is designed to be repeatable and scalable, with content updated to reflect the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape across participating markets.

The 2026 edition of the Risk and Resiliency Immersion Program was completed in June 2026 and was well received across the FSI sector. More AWS risk programs are being planned and will be announced early next year.

"Regulators across the region are raising their expectations around operational resilience and AI governance — and rightly so. The manual, retrospective control processes that served institutions in on-premise environments simply cannot scale in cloud-native architectures. That gap is no longer theoretical; it's operational.

Generative AI offers a clear path forward — not to replace human judgment, but to equip risk teams with continuous assurance and automated evidence collection at the speed the cloud demands. The institutions that move decisively now won't just keep pace with regulation — they'll build a durable advantage in both efficiency and regulatory confidence," said Jeff Axelrad, Director, Global Head FSI Compliance, Amazon Web Services.

“Financial institutions across Southeast Asia are at different stages of their cloud journeys, but one thing is clear: risk and compliance teams need to build cloud and AI literacy at the same pace as their technology counterparts. The acceleration of generative AI adoption has made this more urgent. Regulators don't just want awareness of new technology risks, they want to see teams equipped to assess and govern them with confidence. We're working directly with risk, compliance, and controls professionals across the region to close that knowledge gap, giving them the practical understanding they need to engage meaningfully on cloud governance and AI risk. When these teams are empowered, institutions move faster, with greater confidence, and in step with regulatory expectations,“ said Jeff Johnson, Managing Director, Amazon Web Services ASEAN.
