TenPay Global and ShopeePay launch cross-border QR payments for China travel

TenPay Global, Tencent's cross-border payment platform, and ShopeePay, a digital payment and financial services provider in Southeast Asia and Brazil, today announced the launch of cross-border QR payments in China, enabling ShopeePay users to seamlessly scan and pay at Weixin Pay QR code merchants directly from their ShopeePay and Shopee apps.

The service will first be available to users from Singapore and Thailand, before expanding to Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines in subsequent phases. Built on TenPay Global's cross-border payment infrastructure and Weixin Pay's merchant network, the service enables Southeast Asian travellers to pay seamlessly in China using the familiar ShopeePay experience across tens of millions of merchants.

In recent years, China has become one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing travel destinations, supported by stronger air connectivity and more convenient travel policies, alongside deepening business and cultural exchanges. As travel between China and Southeast Asia grows, consumers increasingly expect to pay overseas as easily as they do at home, and interoperable QR payments are becoming a key element of travel infrastructure.

"This launch marks an important milestone in ShopeePay's efforts to build a more connected and inclusive digital payment ecosystem across the region," said Supphavit Hongamornsin, head of ShopeePay. "As the first regional partner to enable Weixin Pay QR payments in China for users across multiple Southeast Asian markets, we are bringing the familiar ShopeePay experience beyond our users' home markets, allowing them to pay as easily and conveniently abroad. As travel and commerce between Southeast Asia and China continue to grow, we believe making payments more seamless across borders can help users and businesses stay connected and unlock new opportunities."

"By enabling ShopeePay users to pay directly at Weixin Pay merchants in China, we are making travel more convenient while strengthening the digital connectivity between Southeast Asia and China," said Wenhui Yang, chief executive officer of TenPay Global (Singapore). "We are committed to connecting the Weixin ecosystem with global partners and continuously expanding the reach and service scenarios of cross-border payments."

TenPay Global has partnered with nearly 50 international digital wallets across 13 countries and regions, enabling international visitors to pay in China via Weixin Pay QR codes using their familiar home wallets, including PayPal (US), Hana Pay and Travel Wallet (Korea), BCEL (Laos) and HiPay (Mongolia).
