The prime minister of Malaysia, Anwar bin Ibrahim, today officiated the launch of Maybank's new headquarters, marking a significant milestone in the group's 66-year history and its continued evolution as the region's leading financial services group. The group's new headquarters at Menara Merdeka Maybank reflects Maybank's commitment to the future. Bringing together its corporate functions under one roof, the headquarters is designed to foster greater collaboration, innovation and operational excellence, enabling Maybank to better serve the evolving needs of its customers and communities across the region. The ceremony was attended by ministers, senior government officials, members of the Maybank Board of Directors, regulators, business leaders, clients and employees as the group unveiled a new headquarters that reflects its aspirations for the future while honouring more than six decades of service to the nation. Held as Malaysia approaches its Independence Day, the launch carries added significance. Bearing the name Merdeka, the headquarters reflects Maybank's enduring place in the nation's story and its confidence in Malaysia's continued progress. It stands as a fitting symbol of a Malaysian institution whose history is closely intertwined with the country's development and whose purpose remains firmly focused on supporting its future. Chairman of Maybank, Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, said, "Menara Merdeka Maybank is more than our new headquarters. It symbolises the trust that generations of Malaysians have placed in us, and the responsibility we have carried to support the nation's economic progress. As we begin this new chapter, we remain steadfast in upholding that trust, guided by our purpose and values as we continue to contribute to Malaysia's growth and prosperity for generations to come." Established in 1960, just a few years after Malaysia attained independence, Maybank was founded to broaden access to financial services and support the country's economic aspirations. Over the past 66 years, the group has helped mobilise capital, support enterprise, facilitate trade and investment, expand financial inclusion and enable home ownership, making it an integral part of Malaysia's economic progress. Today, as the country's largest homegrown financial institution, Maybank serves more than 17 million customers across 18 markets, guided by its purpose of Humanising Financial Services. As a purpose-driven institution, Maybank's aspirations are closely aligned with the Government's vision of fostering a more inclusive, resilient and progressive Malaysia. Beyond banking, the group continues to support national priorities by expanding financial inclusion, empowering entrepreneurs and strengthening communities through impactful initiatives. These efforts are guided by Maybank's Social Impact Framework, which is reported annually through the group's Social Impact Report. Through its focus on Social Financing and Social Empowerment—anchored on the pillars of Education, Community and Environment—Maybank continues to broaden access to financial services, build stronger and more resilient communities and support sustainable development across ASEAN. Over more than a decade, the group has mobilised MYR76.02 billion ($18.59 billion) through its social financing and social empowerment initiatives, positively impacting more than 5.76 million lives across the region. Most recently in the year, these efforts include the SME Perkasa financing programme, which helps micro, small and medium enterprises grow and build resilience, and the Nadi Mastercard Credit Card-i, which broadens access to responsible financing for underserved and new-to-credit segments. Together with Maybank's broader social impact initiatives, these reflect the group's continued commitment to creating meaningful and lasting value beyond banking. These efforts have also earned Maybank international recognition, including being named the World's Best Bank for Corporate Responsibility and Malaysia's Best Bank at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2026, reaffirming the group's commitment to creating meaningful and lasting impact for the communities it serves. President & group chief executive officer of Maybank, Khairussaleh Ramli, said, "Today's milestone marks more than a new chapter for Maybank. It reflects our continued evolution as we build a future-ready organisation, strengthen our regional leadership and deliver greater value for our customers, communities and stakeholders. As we continue executing our ROAR30 strategy, we remain focused on creating exceptional customer experiences by delivering simpler, more seamless and personalised solutions through the strength of our people, digital capabilities and regional network. We are equally committed to impacting society positively by expanding financial inclusion, empowering individuals and businesses through responsible and values-based financial solutions, while advancing education, strengthening communities and supporting environmental stewardship through our social impact initiatives. At the same time, we will continue to power the real economy by mobilising capital, facilitating trade and investment, and supporting businesses of all sizes to innovate, grow and thrive. Guided by our purpose of Humanising Financial Services, these priorities will continue to shape how we serve our stakeholders and create long-term, sustainable value for our customers, communities, shareholders and the markets we call home."
