Under his leadership, Techcombank is also recognised as the Best Managed Bank in Vietnam. Lottner’s customer-focused strategy, together with investments in data, digital capabilities and talent, has enabled Techcombank to realise its vision: “Change banking, Change lives.” Under his leadership, the bank has undergone a digital transformation, delivering personalised, high-impact banking experiences grounded in innovation and sustainability, while accelerating the roll-out of first-of-its-kind offerings. He has also prioritised talent development and strengthened the bank’s commitment to sustainability, ensuring long-term growth and positive social impact. Driving digital transformation and innovation He has spearheaded Techcombank’s digital transformation through strategic investments in data, digital capabilities and talent. He led the development of a market-leading digital banking platform, featuring a powerful artificial intelligence (AI)-driven ‘data brain’ and an advanced marketing stack, enabling the bank to deliver hyper-personalised customer experiences at scale. AI and machine learning technologies are applied throughout the bank to improve credit decisioning, identify high-potential leads, enhance operational efficiency and drive sustainable business growth. This strategy has broadened the bank’s reach and deepened customer engagement, resulting in a highly digitally engaged customer base, with over 90% of transactions now conducted online. The bank also migrated its front-end digital engagement platform to the cloud, enhancing scalability and stability to support increasing transaction volumes and future growth. Accelerating product innovation and expanding ecosystems He has led the bank to enhance customer-centricity and accelerate the roll-out of first-of-its-kind products and experiences —maintaining a low average cost to serve customers. Leveraging its digital foundation, the bank introduced innovative offerings, including enhanced auto-earning features, a carbon-tracking debit card and the Techcombank Rewards loyalty ecosystem, which spans over 300 partner brands and quickly became one of Vietnam’s most widely adopted programmes. He also guided the bank’s ecosystem strategy, building strategic alliances across real estate, insurance and securities. These partnerships have expanded its services and supported the co-development of relevant offerings such as wealth management products via Techcom Securities and non-life insurance products through Techcom Non-Life Insurance—all aimed at enriching customer relationships. Advancing talent excellence and sustainability commitments Talent excellence remains a key strategic priority. Lottner has focused on attracting top talent both locally and internationally while driving a shift towards IT, data and digital expertise. Through TechcomAcademy, a centralised learning hub, the bank offers extensive training and upskilling programmes, enhancing employee engagement and internal mobility. Diversity initiatives have further strengthened representation across all tiers, contributing to organisational resilience. In sustainability, he championed increased green credit funding and led Techcombank to become the first private bank in Vietnam to establish a Green Bond Framework aligned with international standards. The bank also introduced an eco-friendly card and actively supports community activities such as marathon sponsorships and tree-planting campaigns. Its philanthropic donations have grown significantly, reflecting its dedication to social upliftment and environmental stewardship. Shaping strategic growth through regional experience Lottner has led Techcombank since August 2020. Prior to this, he spent five years at Siam Commercial Bank, where he held senior executive roles, including chief strategy officer, chief transformation officer, chief data officer, and later chief financial officer, where he spearheaded its digital shift towards customer-centricity. Lottner began his career with McKinsey & Company in Germany in 1992 and was elected partner in 2000. He relocated to Malaysia in 2001 and then to Singapore in 2005, serving as senior partner and leading McKinsey’s financial services practice in ASEAN until 2012. During this time, he also headed the Asia Pacific risk management practice and was a member of the Asia Pacific management committee. From 2012 to 2015, he was senior partner and managing director at the Boston Consulting Group in Singapore, where he led the financial services practice across ASEAN. About the CEO Leadership Achievement Awards TAB Global conducts a Leadership Achievement Awards programme every three years, focusing on the performance of CEOs/chairmen and boards in the financial services industry. The programme was first introduced in 2004 and is run only once every three years to give time to the leadership of banks to demonstrate the ability to translate strategy into execution. This highly coveted award is one of the most difficult and exclusive recognition programmes of its kind for any top banker in the industry because of its stringent evaluation process. The Best Managed Bank award is made in conjunction with the CEO Leadership Achievement Award in the belief that true leadership results in strong and sustainable franchises.
