The Board of Directors of UniCredit SpA unanimously approved the appointment of Jean Pierre Mustier as the Group's new CEO. He will take up the position from July 12, 2016. Mustier will replace Federico Ghizzoni.
Mustier, 55, began his career in 1987 at Société Générale, where he held various positions, primarily within its Corporate & Investment Banking division. In 2003, he was appointed Head of Société Générale's Corporate & Investment Banking division and member of the bank's Executive Committee. In 2011, he joined UniCredit Group, where he served as the Deputy General Manager and Head of Corporate & Investment Banking, a position he held for three years. He is currently a partner at Tikehau Capital, an investment management company, and a member of the Board of Directors of Alitalia.
In making the appointment, the Corporate Governance, Human Resources and Nomination Committee considered a number of candidates with extensive international experience. The committee took particular note of Mustier's exceptional credentials, expertise in international financial services and deep knowledge of UniCredit Group's structure. The Board of Directors came to the unanimous conclusion that Mustier was the best person to assume the role of Chief Executive Officer of UniCredit.
In compliance with applicable regulations, the appointment of Mustier as CEO will be submitted to the European Central Bank for approval.
