ING Bank announced that Gerrit Stoelinga will be appointed Head of ING Wholesale Banking Asia with effect from 1 September 2016. In this role, Gerrit will be responsible for the strategy and performance of ING’s wholesale banking business across 13 markets in Asia.
Since joining ING Bank in 1999, Gerrit has held multiple senior roles and is currently the Global Head of International Trade & Commodity Finance (ITEF) and Co-Head of Structured Finance. He has extensive experience in lending services with a particular focus on structured finance, both in the front-office and in risk management. In 2010 Gerrit was appointed Global Head of Structured Acquisition Finance, establishing this business as top 3-ranked global provider, before taking on his current responsibilities in January 2015. As Global Head of ITEF, Gerrit has been managing teams in 17 locations across the globe, including Japan, Singapore, South Korea and China.
Gerrit will be based in Singapore, the regional headquarters of ING Bank in Asia. He succeeds Mark Newman, who has been Head of ING Wholesale Banking Asia since 2012.
On 1 June 2016, Mark was appointed Head of ING Retail Challengers & Growth Markets Asia (ex-Australia) to oversee ING’s retail business in Asia, including the Bank’s strategic partnerships with Bank of Beijing in China (ING holds a 13.6% stake), Kotak Mahindra Bank in India (6.4% shareholding) and TMB in Thailand (30.0% stake).
Mark joined ING London in 1992, and was subsequently based in Hong Kong, then Singapore in the last 20 years. He was appointed a board member of ING Direct Australia in April 2015, and a month later, he joined the board of Kotak Mahindra Bank in India.
William Connelly, member of ING Bank’s management board and Head of ING Wholesale Banking, said: “I would like to thank Mark for his dedication and contribution made in the various roles he fulfilled in our Wholesale Bank. Our Asian franchise has developed into a major contributor to Wholesale Bank under his leadership.”
