Citi Korea launches Chicago Korea Desk to strengthen financial support for Korean corporates expanding across North America

Citi Korea announces the launch of its new Citi Korea Desk in Chicago, significantly expanding its on-the-ground financial support for Korean corporate clients entering the North American market. This addition further enhances Citi Korea’s established network.

Since opening its inaugural Korea Desk in New York in 1993, Citi Korea has consistently supported the global expansion of Korean corporate clients by establishing Korea Desks across major financial centers in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. With the launch of the Chicago Korea Desk, Citi Korea has further strengthened its local support framework in North America, complementing its existing presence and enhancing its capacity to serve Korean corporate clients across the entire continent. Chicago’s strategic position as a hub for manufacturing and logistics in the U.S. Midwest makes it a key gateway connecting markets throughout North America.

The new desk adds to existing Korea desks supporting Citi’s Banking clients in London, Prague, Dubai, Singapore, New York, Warsaw, Chennai, Hong Kong, Atlanta and Monterrey.

Korean corporate clients are rapidly expanding their presence across North America in diverse industries, including manufacturing, power, semiconductors, and services. As more companies establish production and sales bases throughout the United States, their business activities are no longer confined to specific regions but are increasingly distributed across North America. This trend underscores the critical importance of stable, locally managed financial operations that remain consistent with headquarters-level standards.

Each Korea Desk operates through close collaboration between Citi professionals, who possess deep expertise in the local financial environment, and Citi Korea bankers, who bring long-standing experience serving Korean corporate clients. This collaborative model enables the Korea Desk to provide more than just local financial services; it acts as a direct conduit between clients’ headquarters in Korea and their overseas subsidiaries.

Kyoungho Kim, Head of Corporate Banking Group at Citi Korea, stated, “Citi Korea has a long history of supporting Korean corporate clients by seamlessly connecting the financial operations of their headquarters in Korea with those of their overseas subsidiaries through our Korea Desks in key global markets.” He added, “The launch of the Chicago Korea Desk further extends this vital capability in North America, providing robust support for Korean corporate clients operating in the U.S. Midwest as they navigate and manage their funding and financial transactions consistently within the local financial environment.”
