BSP and Royal Canadian Mint sign MoU on currency management

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation in currency management and gold refining last 22 January 2025.

BSP Governor Eli M. Remolona Jr. and Marie Lemay, RCM president and CEO signed the MOU during an online ceremony, with Remolona at the BSP head office in Manila and Lemay at the RCM headquarters in Ottawa.

The five-year partnership aims to foster collaboration between BSP and RCM, focusing on sustainability practices, cost-effective currency production, gold processing operations and commemorative coin production.

The MOU also outlines key areas of cooperation, including technology exchange, staff training and exchange and sharing best practices, expertise and technical and capacity-building assistance.

Mamerto E. Tangonan, BSP deputy governor and Mary Anne P. Lim, BSP assistant governor also attended the virtual ceremony, along with Asma A. Panda, BSP acting general counsel; Erizelle N. Linaban, BSP director; and representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs – Office of American Affairs (DOF), namely Jose Victor V. Chan-Gonzaga, assistant secretary; Stephanie Alexis A. Cruz, director; and Kristabel Anne C. Arcilla, principal assistant.

This MOU signing follows the BSP’s signing of agreements on payments and currency management with Banque de France on 23 October 2024 and with Bundesdruckerei GmbH on 10 October 2024.
