BNM issues commemorative coins for Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVII installation

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) announced the issuance of commemorative coins in conjunction with the installation of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on 20 July 2024.

The commemorative coin is issued in three denominations:

Gold (proof) commemorative coin: This coin is made of gold with 999.9 purity and weighs 8 grams. It has a face value of MYR100 ($23.64 ) and will be sold at MYR 3,250 ($767.51) per piece. The mintage quantity is 300 pieces.

Sterling Silver (proof) commemorative coin: This coin is made of sterling silver with 92.5 purity and weighs 31 grams. It has a face value of MYR 10 ($2.36 ) and will be sold at MYR 275 ($64.94) per piece. The mintage quantity is 1,300 pieces.

Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U.) commemorative coin: This coin is made of copper and several other metals and weighs 8.5 grams. The coin has a face value of RM1 and will be sold at MYR 16.50 ($3.89) per piece. The mintage quantity is 5,000 pieces.

The commemorative coins are also available for sale in a Set of 2, comprising one sterling silver (proof) coin and one Nordic gold (proof) coin. Each set is priced at MYR 330 ($77.91). A total of 1,300 sets will be available for purchase.

Coin Design

The design of the commemorative coins is as follows:

Obverse – The portrait of Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVII Sultan Ibrahim is featured at the centre of the coin against a stylised black pepper plant motif.

His Majesty’s name, "Sultan Ibrahim," is inscribed on the upper circumference of the coin.

Reverse – The centre of the coin depicts the image of the royal insignia of Yang di-Pertuan Agong against a stylised black pepper plant motif.

The text "Pertabalan Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVII" is inscribed on the upper circumference of the coin, while the text "Bank Negara Malaysia" as the issuing authority is shown at the bottom circumference along with the face value of "100 ringgit" for gold (proof), "10 ringgit" for sterling silver (proof), and "1 ringgit" for Nordic gold B.U.

Sale of commemorative coins

To provide a fair opportunity for members of the public to buy these limited-edition coins, there will be a purchase limit of one Set of 2, one gold (proof) coin, one sterling silver (proof) coin and up to five Nordic gold B.U. coins per person.

Members of the public can place their orders at duit.bnm.gov.my from 11:00 a.m. on 2 October 2024 to 11:00 p.m. on 13 October 2024.

Members of the public are advised to place their orders through BNM’s online system and not with or through any other party. All orders will be considered and no preference will be given to orders based on the order date and time. In the event of oversubscription, balloting will take place.
