Bank Negara Malaysia appointed Yogeesvaran Kumaraguru as an external member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) for a two-year term, effective 1 September 2024.
An accomplished economist, Kumaraguru had 27 years of experience in the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) before joining the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities as secretary-general in 2017. During his tenure at EPU, he was involved in the formulation of several Malaysia Plans and was a member of the National Economic Action Council Secretariat. He has also served as a consultant on economic matters to the World Bank and the United Nations.
Yogeesvaran holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Malaya, and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of London, United Kingdom.
