SIBOS 2012 emphasises community theme
Bankers from around the world gather to discuss the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow at SIBOS 2012. November 09, 2012 | Foo Boon PingCommunity is the big theme of this year SIBOS meeting in Osaka, Japan, which took place from 29th October to 1st November 2012. With more than 6,200 registered delegates and over 175 exhibitors present, this was the largest ever SIBOS meeting in Asia. Newly appointed SWIFT chief executive officer, Gottfried Leibbrandt enthused that this year's meeting as compared to the previous years' meetings after the global financial crisis was clearly marked and energised by a sense of action as the community of transaction bankers from across the world came together to meet the challenges of regulations as well as seize opportunities from the shift of business and trade flows from West to East. Manfred Schmoelz, head of transaction services, Asia Pacific at Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), spoke about the bank's recent exit from the Asset Protection Scheme since its bail-out by the UK government, the rehabilitation of its balance sheet and capital base. After the restructuring of its operations and business focus, the bank's core strategy now rests on three core pillars of funding and liquidity, risk management and transaction services.
