This week’s retail banking news includes Citi's new global banking head, JCB's new Indonesian credit card, and NIB's closure of its retail banking network.

Jonathan Larsen appointed Citibank global retail bank head
Citi has appointed Jonathan Larsen as head of global retail banking. Larsen, currently Head of Asia Pacific Consumer Banking, will remain based in Asia and continue in his role for Asia Pacific.The appointment marks the first time a global leader for one of Citi’s main consumer banking units will be based in Asia Pacific, which underlines the increasing importance of the region and its consumer bank to Citi globally.

BII launches BII-JCB platinum credit card
JCB has teamed up with Bank Internasional Indonesia (BII) to launch the BII-JCB Platinum Credit Card. Cardholders will be able to enjoy services provided by both BII and JCBI such as a loyalty point programme exchangeable for selected airlines’ miles, access to JCB Plaza customer service centres, and frequent promotions at JCB merchants.

NIB to close retail banking network
National Irish Bank (NIB), owned by Denmark’s Danske Bank, will be closing its network of 27 branches around the country as part of a major restructuring of its business. The branch closures will be completed by mid-November, and nine locations will be converted to personal banking units which will provide financial advisors but no transaction services. NIB will also be rebranded to Danske Bank.
