Cathay United Bank remodels data warehouse to facilitate a single version of truth
The bank successfully partnered with Teradata to implement an enterprise-wide Data Management Infrastructure, improving analysis efficiency and risk control capabilities. May 14, 2013 | Levina LimPreamble Cathay United Bank (CUB) is a subsidiary of the largest privately owned financial holding company (FHC) in Taiwan, owning 163 domestic branches, six overseas branches, four representative offices, more than 6,000 staff and an issued capital of $1.76 billion. CUB engaged Teradata to remodel its data warehouse from 2010-2012 CUB’s analytics journey began in 2001, with the implementation of an infrastructure plan to build an enterprise data warehouse system. In 2006, it introduced advanced data mining tools to improve its customer analytics capabilities. Two years later, the bank built a Basel II data model and system to better comply with risk management regulations. The challenge In June 2010, CUB began to realise the inadequacy of its existing CRM system, and decided to revamp its system, embarking on an enterprise-wide Data Management Infrastructure project. The deterioration of the financial environment has driven the need to strengthen competitiveness and ensure stable, sustained profit growth. There is also a need to enhance risk management capabilities in compliance with the Basel II international capital requirements. In building a robust Enterprise Data Management Infrastructure, the entire data warehouse needed to be remodelled to enable a Single Version of Business Truth. Master Data Management (MDM) mechanism and data governance guidelines needed to be in place, and a robust, scalable and sustainable hardware structure built.
