US consumers gravitate towards online purchases
Post-Thanksgiving online shopping hits $2 billion mark, figure is expected to rise in coming years. December 22, 2011 | Lalitha SivanesanThe post-Thanksgiving online shopping frenzy in the U.S. usually hits its peak on two days, namely on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. According to the comScore Black Friday 2011 report, Black Friday 2011 netted about $816 million in online expenditure, representing a 26% increase versus Black Friday 2010. The Black Friday report also observes that online spending on Cyber Monday racked up $1.25 billion, resulting in an increase of 22% compared to a year ago and representing the biggest online spending day in history and the second day to surpass the billion-dollar threshold after Cyber Monday 2010. These figures, however, do not take into account the weekend between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, where $1,031 billion was spent during online shopping, a 16% YoY increase.
