MUFG appoints Vivek Batra to spearhead transaction banking sales in Asia and Oceania

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc.’s (MUFG) banking entity, the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. has appointed Mr. Vivek Batra as General Manager, Regional Head of Transaction Banking Sales, Asia & Oceania, Transaction Banking Office for Asia & Oceania. In this role, Mr. Batra will be responsible for enhancing MUFG’s transaction banking business, which includes cash management and trade finance, across 13
markets within the Asia & Oceania region.

Mr. Batra joined the bank today and is based in Singapore. He reports to Mr. Kazumitsu Komatsu, General Manager of the Transaction Banking Office for Asia & Oceania.

Formerly the Managing Director and Global Head of Sales of DBS Bank’s Global Transaction Services, Mr. Batra brings over 20 years of experience into the role, which will see him setting and driving the strategic direction of MUFG’s transaction banking business as well as deepening the bank’s corporate client portfolio across the region.

The appointment of Mr. Batra is part of the bank’s ongoing efforts of leveraging senior and international banking talents to spur the growth of MUFG’s key businesses such as transaction banking and global corporate
banking. 

Mr. Vivek Batra was appointed as General Manager, Regional Head of Transaction Banking Sales, Asia & Oceania, Transaction Banking Office for Asia & Oceania, at Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group’s banking entity Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ. He joined the bank on 7 April 2017 and is based in Singapore.

In this capacity, he will enhance the bank’s transaction banking business, which includes cash management and trade services, across 13 markets within the Asia & Oceania region.

Mr. Batra has close to 23 years of banking experience, wherein he amassed an in-depth knowledge of wholesale and transaction banking businesses in Asia, and in particular, India. He started his banking career in HSBC India, where he was responsible for managing and growing the bank’s portfolio of corporate banking relationships.

He joined DBS Bank in 2005 and helped set up its branch in New Delhi. Mr. Batra then moved on to head the bank’s institutional banking business in India two years later, where he helped grow DBS’ business in the country multi-fold and cemented its reputation as a leading foreign bank in the country.

In 2013, Mr. Batra was appointed Managing Director and Global Head of Sales for DBS’ Global Transaction Services (GTS) unit, where he was responsible for driving the expansion of the bank’s GTS business,
comprising cash management and trade services. 

Mr. Batra has a Bachelor of Commerce from Mumbai University, India, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (equivalent to MBA) from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, India.
