August 12th 2013 - Monitise plc , a global leader in Mobile Money solutions, today announced an agreement with Desjardins Group, Canada’s leading cooperative financial group, to develop and deploy NFC (near field communication) mobile payment capabilities to its members and clients.
The agreement with Monitise will allow Desjardins to offer its members and clients an easy-to-use and secure contactless mobile payment application. Through the agreement, Monitise will develop the NFC-enabled mobile payment application for Desjardins in collaboration with their trusted service manager (TSM), EnStream, a joint venture between Canada’s major mobile network operators. The technology will allow Desjardins members and clients to make purchases at Canadian retailers securely and conveniently using their smartphone.

The mobile payment solution, which will be launched in 2014, is the first step towards enhancing Desjardins's mobile payment offer. The development of this new mobile payment solution is in line with the Canadian mobile payment guidelines announced in May 2012 by Desjardins and the major Canadian banks. These guidelines aim to guarantee security, reliability and ease of use for merchants and consumers alike.
