London, August 5th 2013 - State Street Global Advisors (SSgA), the investment management business of State Street Corporation, announced today the appointment of Louis de Montpellier as global head of SSgA’s official institutions group (OIG). De Montpellier joins from the Bank for International Settlements in Switzerland, where he has been deputy head of the banking department since 2005. The department is responsible for providing banking and asset management services to more than 150 central banks and international organisations. He will join SSgA at the end of September.

De Montpellier succeeds John Nugée who will retire at the end of October. Nugée will remain in an advisory capacity as a strategic consultant for SSgA’s OIG business and will continue to provide research and participate in select client events.

“I am extremely excited at this appointment and the contribution Louis will bring to SSgA’s official institution business. His experience and knowledge will play an important role in helping us deliver relevant investment solutions for our clients and in sustaining our leading position in this important market segment,” commented Michael Karpik, head of SSgA for Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Karpik continued, “John founded our Official Institution Group at SSgA and we are very grateful to him and his 13 years of dedication and commitment. He has helped establish SSgA as a leading asset manager for the official institutions sector with more than $400 billion in official sector assets under management. John and Louis will work closely together over the next few months to transition responsibilities.”

De Montpellier brings more than 25 years of experience to SSgA and has considerable expertise spanning public debt management, public asset management and private sector finance. He has held a variety of positions at companies including Morgan Stanley, The Ministry of Finance in Belgium, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Credit Suisse.
