JCB launches mobile wallet pilot

Tokyo, November 6th 2012 - JCB, a leading international payment brand in Japan, announced that it has launched a one month trial focusing on usability for the new JCB Mobile Wallet platform and plans to release the product to the market in 2013.

The JCB Mobile Wallet handles payment, point programs, discounts and other special offers with some unique functionalities, making it the Mobile Wallet of choice for users who want to take advantage of convenience and savings.

"JCB has developed and released a number of smartphone apps including the JCB Travel Guide with multiple destination that has special discounts and offers for JCB cardmembers visiting those destinations to provide our unique value to cardmembers", said Tac Watanabe, Executive Vice President, Brand Infrastructure & Technologies of JCB. "The new JCB Mobile Wallet platform is another approach to further meet customer needs and provide JCB’s unique values to customers, including making payments using points, managing multiple loyalty programs, and exchanging points with friends."

The JCB Mobile Wallet is based on a platform developed by Dai Nippon Printing, which is also participating in the trial. The trial offers discounts and special offers at merchants in the trendy shopping district of Omotesando in Tokyo and will test the usability of app functions such as exchanging points for discount coupons and exchanging points among users.

JCB is aiming to release the JCB Mobile Wallet in 2013, using the results of the trial to improve contents and functions from the point of view of users, merchants and service providers. The first market to be introduced will be Japan, followed by other markets depending upon the needs in each market.
